Solution

Lightblue consulted with the client to jointly develop a practical, implementable AI roadmap for multiple business units and functions, aligned to their business strategy and informed by value, implementation effort, cost, complexity and technological maturity.

Approach

  • Insurance Industry Trends: We unpacked the insurance business value chain and the most common use cases being undertaken to get insights into what competitors were doing.
  • Business & IT Strategy Review: We reviewed the client’s business & IT strategy to align with their intended strategic directions.
  • Joint Ideation: We conducted ideation workshops in which we co-imagined various potential capabilities and associated use cases across multiple functional areas.
  • Prioritisation: We scored each use case envisaged across effort, cost, complexity, solution maturity and business benefit.
  • Roadmap Definition: We detailed the roadmap by identifying the short, medium and longer term initiatives to be undertaken.
  • Presentation and Wrap Up: We presented the final roadmap to the Business & IT leadership.

Lessons Learnt

  • Data Quality and Availability: High-quality data is fundamental to AI success. Organisations often underestimate the importance of data cleaning, integration, and governance. Ensuring data readiness is a critical step.
  • Scalability and Integration: Planning for scalability and integration from the beginning helps avoid future roadblocks. AI solutions should be designed to integrate seamlessly with existing systems and scale as needed.
  • Ethics and Compliance: Considering ethical implications and regulatory compliance is vital. Organisations must address issues related to data privacy, security, and the ethical use of AI.
  • Iterative Approach and Flexibility: An iterative, agile approach allows for continuous learning and adaptation. Flexibility in the roadmap can accommodate changes and improvements as the project evolves.
  • Talent and Skills Development: Developing in-house AI expertise or collaborating with external partners is necessary. Investing in training and hiring the right talent can significantly impact the success of AI initiatives.
  • Performance Measurement: Defining clear metrics and KPIs to measure the performance and impact of AI initiatives helps in tracking progress and demonstrating value to stakeholders.
